{"id":62,"date":"2026-05-12T10:29:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T08:29:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/karvaqur.geof.hr\/?page_id=62"},"modified":"2026-05-25T12:55:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T10:55:16","slug":"o-projektu","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/karvaqur.geof.hr\/en\/o-projektu\/","title":{"rendered":"About project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The KARVAQUR project focuses on the cartographic assessment and analysis of water risks in the Republic of Croatia using modern geospatial technologies, GIS tools and data available through the Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas. The main objective of the project is to develop an integrated system for the identification, analysis and visualization of areas of increased risk of floods, droughts and other forms of water insecurity, with an emphasis on the differences between urban and rural areas. The project combines remote sensing methods, geodetic measurements, spatial statistics and cartographic interpretation in order to obtain a quality basis for decision-making in water resources management and climate change adaptation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the current climate of climate change, increasing extreme weather events and increasing pressure on water resources, the need for precise spatial analyses of water risks is becoming increasingly important. Croatia is particularly vulnerable to flash floods, river floods and tidal surges, with both urban areas with developed infrastructure and rural areas with a lower level of protection at risk. The KARVAQUR project aims to integrate existing global risk assessment models with local data and field observations in order to obtain credible and cartographically clear results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the first year of project implementation, emphasis will be placed on establishing the technical and methodological infrastructure required for research and ultimately producing maps and atlases on the topic of flood risk. The initial phase of the project will involve the procurement of the necessary instruments and equipment for field work and data processing. This includes high-precision GNSS\/GPS devices for geolocation measurements, sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for aerial imagery collection, laptops and computer workstations for spatial data processing, and the necessary GIS and analytical software. The procured equipment will enable precise field data validation and efficient processing of large amounts of geospatial information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, data collection and organization from various sources will be carried out. The project team will use data available through the Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas, satellite imagery, CORINE Land Cover database, digital relief models, hydrological data from the State Hydrometeorological Institute and data from Croatian Waters. Special emphasis will be placed on the integration of all data within the GIS system to enable comparison of spatial indicators for flood risk analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first year, preliminary field surveys and data validation will also be carried out in selected pilot areas. Field measurements will be used to verify the accuracy of digital models and spatial analyses and to identify critical locations susceptible to flooding. The results of the collected data will serve as a basis for the development of a risk classification methodology and the subsequent production of thematic and interactive maps and atlases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The KARVAQUR project, with its interdisciplinary approach, connects geodesy, cartography, GIS and environmental protection and contributes to the development of modern methods of spatial analysis of water risks.
